As we start the new year, it becomes a time for us to reflect and think about what we want to do and who we want to be. Many people create resolutions and new goals at the beginning of the calendar year, but there are other pivotal moments in our lives where we feel that it is a good time to make a fresh start! Pivotal moments could be a change of age, change of career, change of location, change of relationship, including divorce or death of a loved one. These are times that force us to create our new normal, establish who we want to be, and how we choose to navigate in the world.
Who Do You Want to Be?
Maybe you want to be more active…have more loving relationships…let go of past hurt and pain that has plagued you…have a different career…be more organized…be in a more peaceful environment…have a different look!
The best thing is everyone does not want to have the same thing!
You get to be the creator of who you want to be.
As you develop who the new you will be, consider a few things:
- What were some of the things you wanted to be when you were younger?
- If you would still like to have those things, what would you need to adjust to achieve them today?
- What are your goals today?
- How do you want to look?
- How do you want to interact with others?
- How do you want to spend your days?
- How do you want to navigate in the world?
Recognize Your Limiting Beliefs
“You can achieve anything you set your mind to” can sometimes become a very cliché comment. It does not mean you actually believe it. Recognizing our own limiting beliefs can sometimes not be so obvious. For example, if you believe your opportunity to achieve a certain goal has passed, that is a limiting belief! As you develop who you want to become, the nagging, negative thoughts come to attack…“You can’t do that!” or “It’s too late for you to become that!”
Recognize what it really is… The Attack of the Limiting Belief!
Developing A Wider Lens
The best thing about our world is there are many paths to your destiny. Many people get to their destination by many different roads. Maybe you wanted to be a professional dancer when you were younger, but now you are older. It does not look like it is achievable. You may have the limiting belief that your opportunity has passed.
If you look with a wider lens,
you will see that there are still many opportunities to achieve your goal. Maybe you could be a dance fitness instructor to an older demographic. Maybe you can create dance fitness videos for Social Media. As you examine your possibilities more will reveal themselves to you. You may find that you will have opportunities to reach a wider audience and be more helpful to more people if you choose to be.
Haters Are Your Biggest Fans!
Other people’s perception and opinions of you and your ability to achieve your goals are not a factor. You have the power! It might take you longer than others. You may have to develop more skills, but it can be done. Tune out the distractions and negative chatter.
Distractions Can Be Disguised
Distractions can sometimes be disguised as pleasurable or entertainment, which makes them unrecognizable. If you want to have a loving and successful marriage, it may not be supportive to the new you to watch hours of television where people are getting a divorce. If you want to lose weight or be fit, you may be putting yourself in a disadvantage by watching commercials that put foods that you are not supposed to have in 3D on the screen. These are distractions and they conflict with your goals, the new you, and your new normal.
The New You is Achievable!
If you believe and put it in action, it is achievable! Make a decision, plan, and visualize yourself doing it. You may have to adjust along the way. Problem-Solve as you go along the pathway to your destiny, but the destination is achievable!
